v. 1. Mysore in general
v. 2. Mysore by districts
At the turn of the 18th century, after Tipu Sultan was killed and Hindu rule restored in Mysore, the East India Company commissioned a detailed study of the regions of Mysore. Drawing upon the first survey by Francis Buchanan, this gazetteer offers in a more organized fashion, detailed notices of the various aspects of this area. The work is in 2 volumes and separated as volume 1 being a description of Mysore in general, where the notices are on : physical geography, flora, fauna, ethnography, history, religion, language and literature, art and industry and finally, administration (under various kings). There are 8 maps of Mysore that show the limits from the year 450 AD up till 1625 AD. Volume 2 is a description by district : Bangalore, Kolar, Tumkur, Mysore, Hassan, Kadur, Shimoga and Chitaldoorg. The description of each district is accompanied by a map. This set is a reprint of the 1877 edition.
