Summary, etc. I notevoli recenti progressi conoscitivi nel campo della citogenetica e della genetica molecolare hanno consentito di individuare anomalie cromosomiche e mutazioni geniche responsabili di numerose infertilità maschili, fino a poco tempo fa del tutto ignorate. Il fatto non è senza rilevanza, se vale il principio che il riconoscimento delle cause di una malattia costituisce anche il primo e necessario approccio verso una sua corretta terapia. Con la presente pubblicazione gli Autori hanno voluto offrire agli specialisti che operano nel campo della procreazione assistita un aggiornamento su questa complessa materia, trattando sia le cause genetiche nell’infertilità maschile sia l’infertilità nelle malattie genetiche. Nel CD-Rom che accompagna il volume, centinaia di malattie genetiche, estrapolate da GENUS (clinical database di oltre 6.000 disordini genetici) sono raggruppate in 23 short report, la cui bibliografia prevede un link diretto a OMIM (Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man) e a GENUS per un aggiornamento in tempo reale.
